‘Why’, you should eat millets??


Before I deep dive into particular health issues and how can we overcome from them by using millets I would like to make you understand why we should eat millets. I’ll explain scientifically how they can help us to overcome from our everlasting health issues.

You might have heard this story of an elephant with its leg tied to a chain in its early childhood age and becoming incapable of breaking a small rope tied to its leg and a week pole even when it has grown up

This is nothing but a PLACIBO EFFECT and we all are victims of it. No matter how convincing the person who is trying to make that elephant understand that it just takes one stroke of its leg to get freed, unless elephant believes in it the person will remain helpless. Just like this elephant if a patient doesn’t believe in what his doctor is prescribing can cure his/her disease, no matter how good is the medicine is, it is not going to help the patient.

Unless you believe in what I am trying to convey is making sense to you it’s not going to make any difference in your life.

Let me help you with some facts and figures to make you believe on how millets can help us to have a good health.

In order to understand the health benefits and medicinal properties of the foods that we consume, the first and foremost point to be considered is the content of fiber and carbohydrates in them.

The white rice we consume is having a fiber and carbohydrates in a ratio of 0.2% and 79%. Which means the ratio is 1:395. Where as in five siridhanya (5-millets) fiber content ranges from 8% to 12.5% and carbohydrate content is in the range of 60% to 69%. Here the ratio varies between 5.5 and 8.8.

The foods in which fiber to carbohydrate ratio is below 10 have been found to possess the best medicinal properties in them.  This smaller ratio will help to release the glucose into the blood in a regulated manner between 6-8 hours of eating such foods. The ability to not to release glucose more than the required quantity into the blood, the presence of many micro nutrients and proteins make millets an extraordinary food.

There are enough scientific research have happened on millets which can prove them as the best food option for modern lifestyle.

More over my mother, sister and all women of my family are so happy that they need not have to put in much effort to cook these millets unlike preparing chapatti or roti. No more headaches of preparing different dishes every day, it’s because if they use different millet and prepare the same dish what they had prepared yesterday then it tastes differently as every millet has its own taste.

I seriously hate cooking because it’s too time consuming activity to cook. But, thanks to my wife that she shown me how cooking millet dishes is a super easy. I am loving it.
